In class today, we talked about the differences between Japanese and American schools. What most interested me was the fact that many Japanese elementary schools start teaching foreign language, as in English. In America, I only had the chance to learn foreign languages from jr high school. It only became a mandatory after entering high school. This probably is because English is the language used world wide so it is making many in the US feel unnecessary to learn other languages. Since it is more convenient to know about other countries language and culture, I felt that the US should start teaching foreign languages earlier into school.
